PORTAGE TOWNSHIP — One person was killed and another missing and presumed dead after a house fire Friday night in Houghton County.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post were sent about 9:15 p.m. on a report two people were trapped in a residence in Portage Township.

“One person is confirmed deceased and another is believed to be deceased but has yet to be located,” the post stated in a news release.

The MSP Eighth District fire investigator will investigate the fire’s cause.

Assisting at the fire were the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, Otter Lake Fire Department, Mercy EMS, Stanton Township Fire Department, Hurontown Fire Department, Chassell Fire Department and Houghton County Medical Examiner.
