KINGSFORD — Staff at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center managed to extinguish a fire in a chair Thursday before Kingsford Public Safety Department arrived, officers said.

Patients in the room did not have any injuries but were taken by Integrity Care Ambulance to Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson to be checked for smoke inhalation.

The fire was reported at 6:12 a.m. at the 1225 Woodward Ave. facility. A metal light fixture cord is believed to have created a spark from the electrical outlet. Crews cleared the facility at 6:50 a.m.
