MARQUETTE — Iron Mountain natives Tom Izzo and Steve Mariucci will square off in a grilling competition Thursday night on the Mariucci Family Beacon House patio in Marquette.

Proceeds from the “Grill & Chill” event, limited to 200 tickets, will benefit Beacon House guests in medical crisis. Marquette celebrity chefs from Elizabeth’s Chop House and the New York Deli will also participate.

In March, Michigan State coach Izzo surpassed Bob Knight for the most wins by a men’s basketball coach at a Big Ten school with 663. Former NFL coach Mariucci contributes as an analyst on NFL Network’s “NFL GameDay.”

The new Mariucci Family Beacon House opened in January and was immediately at full occupancy.

Beacon House has been in operation since 2002, providing some 350,000 overnight stays to those in medical crisis, saving them more than $65 million in meals and lodging expenses that many could not otherwise afford.
