Marinette County to have 97th-annual fair Aug. 21-24

WAUSAUKEE, Wis. — The 97th-annual Marinette County Fair is planned from Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 21-24, at the fairgrounds in Wausaukee, offering attendees a variety of activities each day.
Exhibit judging takes place on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
The exhibit buildings will open at 9 a.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 10 a.m. Sunday. The commercial building is open at 11 a.m. daily.
Livestock judging is a staple of any fair and the Marinette fair is no exception.
Thursday, Aug. 21, will have beef judging at 12:30 p.m., with rabbit judging following. Swine judging starts at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, followed by sheep and goat judging at about 10:30 a.m. Poultry — chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys and more — judging begins at 10 a.m. Friday. The youth livestock auction takes place at 7 that evening.

Saturday, Aug. 23, has dairy judging starting at 8:30 a.m. The fun livestock costumer contest, where participants dress up with their animals, takes place at 6 p.m. The theme this year is Fair Grammy Awards. Trophies and awards will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, in the show barn and all auction animals will be released at 4 p.m.
Carnival rides will be available each day, with special prices for wristbands during certain times. Thursday rides open at 4 p.m., with a $30 wristband available from 4 to 10 p.m. On Friday, rides open at 2 p.m. A $25 wristband is available from 2 to 5 p.m. and a $30 wristband from 6 to 10 p.m. Rides open at noon on both Saturday and Sunday. A $25 wristband is available from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday only.
Grandstand events are planned each day. Thursday will have a mini rod pull at 6 p.m. The farm tractor pull is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday. A demolition derby is at 1 p.m. Saturday and the truck pull at 7 p.m. A horse pull starts at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Other events Thursday include the 4-H royalty coronation at 5:30 p.m. and a DJ performing from 7 to 11 p.m.
A horse show starts at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the horse arena and the flag presentation takes place at 12:30 p.m. in the arena. On Saturday there is a horse speed show planned at 12:30 p.m. A Horse Fun Day will be from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.

Magician and balloon artist Matthew Scherer, who has performed as Magic Matt for more than 30 years in Chicago and the Midwest, will have shows daily. Shows are planned at 5:30, 7 and 8 p.m. Thursday; 3:30, 5:30 and 7 p.m. Friday; 12:30, 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. Saturday; and 12:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
Pompeyo’s Dog shows will also be held throughout the event, with times to be determined. The family act performed on season 12 of the television show “America’s Got Talent.”
The educational and interactive Agri-Bot display will be open daily. On Sunday, bingo is planned at 11 a.m. A Farm Chore Challenge begins at 11:30 a.m. The fair raffle drawing takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday.
On Friday, the Fire On High duo from Green Bay will play variety rock and country music from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by the Wisconsin band Off Brand at 8 p.m. performing a variety of rock and country hits from the ’90s through today. Just About Right, an acoustic duo made up of friends and musicians Hannah Kuehnl and Zach Nault, plays from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. The Wisconsin country band 10 Cases Later performs from 4 to 7 p.m., with 8 Second Ride, another country band from Wisconsin, playing at 8 p.m. The Rapid Transit Band of northeast Wisconsin closes the weekend with country, classic rock and oldies music starting at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
Entry is $5 per day, or a weekend pass for $12 in advance or $15 at the gate.

Parking is $2. Parking is available directly east of the fairgrounds.
General admission parking will not be allowed on the fairgrounds. Parking behind the main exhibit building will be for authorized vehicles only.
