Week-long UP State Fair opens Monday

ESCANABA — The Upper Peninsula State Fair will run Monday through Sunday, Aug. 17, at the U.P. State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.

The grandstand entertainment in order of appearance is: Cornhole tournament on Monday, The Ultimate Tribute the Fab Four on Tuesday, Diamond Rio on Wednesday, Snotty Nose Rez Kids on Thursday, Justin Moore on Friday, Pop Evil on Saturday and, finally, UPW Pro Wrestling on Sunday.

For all events, except Sunday, the doors will open at 7 p.m. Eastern time, with the entertainment starting at 8 p.m. Sunday’s doors will open at 5 p.m. Eastern time, with the entertainment at 6 p.m.

Tickets prices Monday through Thursday and Sunday are $10 for adults and $5 for kids; Friday and Saturday are $15 and $10 respectively; and week passes are $45 and $30, which can all be purchased online at www.upstatefair.net/tickets/admission-prices/.

Other events include robotics fair play, a bingo tent, strolling piano, Arestov’s Acrobatic Extravaganza, antique steam and gas village, a dove release, Martinez sand sculptures and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Pocket Park.

The fairgrounds offer camping for those looking for a stay near the festivities. Camping is only available by advanced reservation during fair week — $250 from Saturday to Sunday, Aug. 17, or a daily rate of $35. The grounds has 120 sites with electricity, water and sewer access and 350 sites with just electricity and water access.
