BONDUEL, Wis. — Niagara capped a perfect American Legion Class A baseball regional tournament Saturday by blanking Clintonville 10-0 in six innings.

Representing Cretton Tutas Post 136, Niagara opened the regional by beating Clintonville 10-3 on Wednesday. Bonduel and Oconto Falls also bowed to the unbeaten regional champions.

Niagara advances to the state tournament in Clintonville, where they will meet the host team at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“I could not be more pleased with the way we are the playing right now,” said Niagara manager Dale Blagec.

In the second inning Saturday against Clintonville, Ben Snyder got things started with a single. A Kevin Evosevich base on balls followed by an error on Nate Krueger’s hard hit ball to third base loaded the bases.

A Seth Polfus sacrifice fly to right scored the first run of the game. Landen Kaldor and Justin Bal reached base on two errors, opening the flood gates for what was to follow.

Micah Wilson, Joe Murvich, Hunter Kaldor and Ben Snyder had four consecutive hits to give Niagara an 8-0 lead.

Niagara’s ninth run of the game came in the third inning when Landen Kaldor singled, stole second and then scored on two passed balls by the catcher.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Joe Murvich reached first on Clintonville’s fourth error of the game. A steal, passed ball and Snyder’s third hit of the game scored Murvich to end the game (10-run rule) and clinch the regional title.

Niagara starter Ethan Blagec reached his 75-pitch limit in the fourth inning, making him eligible to pitch if necessary in Wednesday’s state tournament opener.

Kevin Evosevich came on in the fifth inning to pitch. The pair gave up seven hits, struck out six and walked three.

Niagara tallied eight hits in the game with one strikeout and two walks.

“Our pitching is outstanding and our defense flawless,” said Coach Blagec, noting only three errors in four games. “This is just what Jim (assistant Bal) and I want to see going into the state tournament. The boys are confident and determined to get it done this year.”

Niagara is making its second state appearance in four years. The team includes players from Niagara, Florence, Norway and North Central high schools.
