Great Lakes Eight selects its best

RAPID RIVER — The North Central Jets enjoyed a stellar football season and were rewarded by receiving Team of the Year honors during the meeting of the Great Lakes Eight Conference football coaches here Monday.

North Central, ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press state and Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters poll, finished the regular season 9-0.

The Jets, led by Coach of the Year Leo Gorzinski, landed five spots on the all-conference team. They were also named the West Division Team of the Year.

Pickford (8-1), ranked second in the U.P. and third in the state, landed eight berths on the all-league squad, including senior Jimmy Storey who was selected Offensive Player of the Year.

Senior Isaac Brown was picked a hybrid player as a defensive lineman for the Panthers, who were also selected the East Division Team of the Year.

Cedarville junior linebacker Grant Fountain was selected Defensive Player of the Year.

Forest Park senior Evan Hedtke was named the league’s kicker and Trojans’ senior quarterback Tommy Peltoma was picked a hybrid player.
