‘Good meet’ for Flivvs in swim sweep

Swimming

MANISTIQUE — Kingsford swept Gladstone and Manistique in a high school swim meet.

Anna Lundholm (100 free, 100 back) and Sydney Scott (100 breaststroke, 100 fly) each won two events as the Flivver girls, 136, dunked Gladstone, 95, and Manistique, 38.

“The girls had a good meet,” said Coach Jim Lindstrom.

Lundholm and Scott teamed with single-winner Samantha Scott (500 free) and Kendall Johnson to take the 200 medley and 400 free relays.

“Anna Lundholm has been on the verge of this type of performance for a while now,” Lindstrom said. “It was great to see her have this type of performance.

“We had a few girls out sick and the rest of the girls really stepped up to fill the slots.”

MacKenzie Gilroy, a late 200 free fill-in, took home a second. Freshman Maggie Mckinnon helped out in the 400 free B relay that scored a second. It was the first time Mckinnon swam 100 yards in a race.

“There is very little this group of girls will not do to help out their team,” Lindstrom noted.

Double winners Luke Sturm (200 free, 500 free) and Kolbe Raiche (200 IM, 100 back) led the Flivver boys, 132, over Manistique, 65, and Gladstone, 39.

John Lundholm claimed the 100 fly and Caleb Voss captured the 100 breaststroke. Freshman Noah Richmond won his first high school event in the 100 free.

Sturm, Raiche and Lundholm joined Voss to win the 200 medley relay. Lundholm, Raiche and Sturm teamed up again, this time with Richmond, to win the 400 free relay.

“Kaden Matuszewski also had a great meet,” said Lindstrom, noting the freshman and Voss had “one of the best races” of the afternoon in the 100 breaststroke.

Voss edged Matuszewski by .2 seconds to finish 1-2.

Voss teamed with Luke Kline, Zane Cahee and Sam Bilgreen for a second in the 200 free relay.

“We are starting to get some of our younger swimmers involved in races they have never tried,” Lindstrom said.

Andrew Nelson swam the 500 free for the first time and finished third.

“As we close in on the end of the first part of the season, I like what I am seeing from the team so far,” Lindstrom said.

In event 2 the 200 medley relay, Luke Sturm, Kolbe Raiche, John Lundholm and Caleb Voss placed first; with Andrew Nelson, Kaden Matuszewski, Sam Bilgreen and Noah Richmond second.
