Badgers denied at Crandon

CRANDON, Wis. – Junior Alyssa Cretton’s 14 points led Niagara in a 42-26 non-conference loss at Crandon here Tuesday

The Cardinals (10-3), who pay in the Northern Lakes Conference, held a 21-12 advantage at halftime and were led in scoring by Lynzee McGesheck with nine points.

Jessica Oratch grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and blocked three shots for the Badgers, who fall to 9-5. Niagara returns to action Thursday when they travel to Crivitz for a Marinette-Oconto Conference game.

Wykons fall

GREEN BAY, Wis. – West Iron County dropped a 68-49 non-conference girls basketball decision to Green Bay Southwest Tuesday in the second of back-to-back games for the Wykons.

“Our kids played hard the entire game, and I am very proud of the effort they gave after playing in Ishpeming the night before,” West Iron head coach Eric Shamion said. “Lots of miles in a bus the last two days.”

Arizona State recruit Jayden Simmons led all scorers with 33 points.

Anna Malmquist paced the Wykons with 15 points, with Jordan Shamion chipping in 13, Livea Mazurek netting 11 and Tori Bociek canning 10.

All-U.P. center Emily Nelson sat out the game with a sore ankle as a precautionary measure, with West Iron (7-4) having a third game yet this week on Friday against Houghton.

Knights fall to Stephenson

NORWAY – Kassie Gyselinck netted 15 points for Norway in a 37-27 girls basketball loss to Stephenson here Tuesday night, dropping the Knights to 1-11.

Emily Johnson’s 20 paced the visitors.

Norway’s JVs claimed a 44-26 triumph, with Donna VanHolla’s 13 points leading the way. Norway hosts North Dickinson Friday.
