The Springer twins, Jenna and Jordyn, both posted double-doubles, combining for 28 points and 20 steals to lead Florence in a 52-21 non-conference rout.

Jenna Springer led all scorers with 15 points and 10 steals. Jordyn Springer had 13 points. The sisters split steals at 10 each.

Leading 24-8 at halftime on parent’s night for Florence, head coach Brad Perry decided to continue using the press into the second half despite leading handily.

“We can’t simulate a full court press in practice when we only have six varsity players,” he said. “So I decided to go with it in some of the second half in a non-conference game for my girls to get more practice with it.”

Lena used a 1-2-2 zone defense for the majority of the game. Perry noted that the Florence girls did well in half court sets moving the ball around, although he feels the level of patience should get better.

“Overall, it was a great night for us,” he said. “Everyone got to play, including the younger players.”

As a team, the Lady Cats had an impressive 35 steals, working hard with the defensive trapping.

Florence (5-7) remains home for a newly added non-conference game with Watersmeet on Thursday night. The game was added to the schedule when Goodman-Pembine had to cancel its season.

Lena won the JV game 24-23.
