STAMBAUGH, Behind a double-double from senior center Emily Nelson, West Iron County cruised past Norway 52-23 in non-conference girls basketball Tuesday night in the Charles Greenlund Gymnasium.

Nelson netted 21 points, while snaring 10 rebounds, and Anna Malmquist canned 17 points to lead the Wykons. Mackenzie Clifford led Norway with eight points.

“We pushed the tempo and it helped to get some easy transition buckets,” said WIC head coach Eric Shamion, his team improving to 8-5. “My whole team played solid defense and they shared the ball on offense. It was a good night for us.”

Norway is off until traveling to area rival Kingsford on Tuesday. The game versus the Flivvers will be game two of a JV/varsity doubleheader at Kingsford, and will tip off upon completion of the boys varsity game which begins at 5:15 p.m.

The Wykons travel to West PAC foe Gwinn on Thursday.
