HARRIS — Well, that’s one way to go out on Senior Night.

The Bark River-Harris girls basketball team saved its best home game for last, jumping out to a 26-3 lead at the end of the first quarter on its way to a dominating 60-33 win over rival North Central Monday night in a Skyline Conference game.

The Broncos (11-8, 10-5 SC) forced 16 turnovers in the first half, constantly picking off passes or swiping the ball out of the Jets’ hands and turning it into easy points on the other end. They started the game on a 22-1 run, capped by a 3-pointer from the left wing by senior guard Sierra Debelak. Their lead swelled to as large as 31-3 on a mid-range jumper by Morgan Cappaert with 7:08 left in the second quarter.

“We’ve actually played like that in stretches this year,” BR-H coach Matt Richer said. “For me being the coach, we (haven’t played like that) enough, but a couple games ago we had a 27-point quarter. (If) we share the ball, we use all five girls that are on the floor, and we play defense together the way we did in that first half and first quarter especially, it can definitely happen more often.”

Debelak led all scorers with 15 points. Senior guard Riley Arndt added 11, senior forward Makena Lockwood grabbed 10 rebounds, and senior guard Grace Peterson contributed seven steals and five boards. Junior guard Allison Richer chipped in 14 points and four assists.

The Jets (11-8, 11-7 SC), missing several key players yet again, continued to play hard and scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to make the score look more respectable. Alex Neville led the way 13 points, five rebounds and four steals, while Bree Arsenault poured in 12 points.

“They never give up, that’s one thing they always do,” Jets coach Lee Vincent said. “They never give up, they play hard right until the end. We wanted to hit at least 30 points. I’m proud of the girls. They played hard.”

The Broncos shot 24 for 57 from the field and held a 25-16 rebounding advantage. The Jets were 11 for 34 and committed 26 turnovers. The Jets lost the JV game 49-36 and visit Mid Peninsula on Thursday.
