Nordics rip Rockets, move record to 17-2

FELCH — Led in scoring by freshman Micah Lindholm and sophomore Ashton Hord with 15 points each, North Dickinson cruised past Rapid River, 57-37, in Skyline Central girls basketball action, Monday night at the Carl F. Lemin Jr. gymnasium.

Senior point guard Brianna Smith chipped in 13 points for the Nordics, who improved to 17-2 on the season.

“In the first half, Rapid River played very well and shot well. They took their time on offense, making us have to play good defense,” Nordics head coach Kirk Mattson said. “We didn’t shoot all that great in the first half. But we improved in the second half.”

North Dickinson played great defense in the third quarter, holding the Rockets scoreless, Mattson said.

Shania Poore, who led the Rockets with 17 points, scored 15 in the fourth quarter, including three straight 3-pointers, Mattson said.

“Overall, the girls played hard, Rapid River slowed down our offense, but we played well in that style of offense tonight,” Mattson said.

North Dickinson has one game remaining in the regular season — Thursday night at Carney-Nadeau. The game will likely decide the Skyline Conference championship, Mattson noted.

RR won the JV game.
