EAST LANSING — Michigan State’s summer of five-star commitments has this time reached north of the United States border. As reported by MLive, Enoch Boakye, a class 2022 forward prospect from Canada, announced his commitment to Michigan State on Tuesday.

“I’m just honored to have the opportunity to go to such an amazing school,” Boakye said during his commitment announcement.

Boakye’s status as a Canadian prospect means he isn’t listed in the composite rankings, but 247sports rates him as a five-star and the No. 18 player in the U.S.

Analysts describe Boakye as a strong and physical player who plays with a high motor and has an improving skill set. At the FIBA Under16 Americas Championship in Brazil last year, Boakye averaged 8.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game for runner-up Team Canada.

The 6’10 240-pound post player, plays his high school basketball for George Harris Prep near Toronto, a school that plays in a league with several other high-level prep schools throughout North America.

Boakye averaged 21.4 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior for George Harris.

“I’m a high-motor guy, somebody who’s going to come in and rebound and block shots, save possessions and do whatever it takes to win,” Boakye said.

Boakye chose Michigan State over UCLA, Arizona, Texas Tech and others after taking multiple unofficial visits to East Lansing.

Boakye is the fourth prospect to commit to Michigan State in a little over three months in what’s been a busy period for the Spartans despite the sport being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Three of them are ranked as a five-star by at least one recruiting service, making for one of the best recruiting stretches in Tom Izzo’s 25-year tenure. The headliner of that bunch Emoni Bates, the top overall prospect in the class of 2022 who committed to the Spartans last month with a surprise announcement.

“Emoni’s such a great player,” Boakye said. “Phenomenal, super talented, but him committing didn’t really have anything to do with me committing early.”

Bates’ announcement was followed soon after by five-star Chicago-area shooting guard Max Christie, who will join the Spartans next year, along with four-star in-state guard Pierre Brooks II.
