IRON RIVER — West Iron handed the football to Gage Larson and pounded out a 28-6 victory in a West PAC Iron Division opener Friday night.

Larson rushed for 133 yards on 26 carries, but it was Nate Thomson who took scoring honors, hitting paydirt on runs of 7 and 5 yards. Thomson also caught three passes from Nolan Anderson for a total of 89 yards.

“We got better as the game went on,” said Wykons coach Mike Berutti. “It’s good to be back on the field.”

The Wykons struck first on a 26-yard pass from Anderson to Logan Horton in the first quarter.

Norway answered in the second quarter on Gannon Bray’s 76-yard bomb to Nolan Amundson, representing the best of the Knights’ offense on the night. Bray added 41 rushing yards on 11 attempts.

West Iron, leading 14-6 at halftime, added two second-half TDs, including a 7-yard run by Justyn Lambert in the fourth quarter.

Sabastian Saaranen and Bink Cline recorded two sacks each for West Iron, while Harrison Hogenmiller and Nick Mattson had one apiece. Anderson was the Wykons’ leading tackler and Ashton Gibson snagged an interception.
