Marquette, Pickford keep top spots in prep football poll

NEGAUNEE — The third UPSSA Football Poll of 2020 has a few changes in both the 11- and eight-player standings.

Last week’s No. 1 team in the 11-player poll, Marquette, received all five first-place votes in this week’s poll. But Sault Ste. Marie dropped to No. 3 after a loss at Kingsley on Friday night.

The Kingsford Flivvers moved up one spot to No. 2. Houghton makes its first appearance of the season in the 11-player poll, at No. 4.

Menominee, with a 41-0 shutout of Gladstone, enters the poll in a three-way tie with Iron Mountain and Calumet at No. 5. The Braves fell out of the top five after being No. 1 in the first poll of the year.

Pickford narrowly hung on to the No. 1 spot in the eight-player poll, with No. 2 North Central getting two first-place votes. Cedarville and Munising switched spot after the Trojans’ 32-8 win over the Mustangs on Friday night.
