G-P lady cagers, with first win in two seasons, defeat White Lake, 47-19

Colette Gilbert, Grace Massey combine for 34 points for G-P

PEMBINE, Wis. — With two players in double figures, led by Colette Gilbert with 20 points, the Goodman-Pembine Lady Patriots defeated White Lake 47-19 in non-conference girls basketball action Friday night at Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine High School.

White Lake got out ot a 5-0 lead early in the game, but the Patriots responded with a 7-0 run of their own.

“We got off to a slow start and were behind right away,” said Patriots head coach Brian Waitrovich. “White Lake used a 2-1-2 zone, which we hadn’t seen yet this season. Our girls picked up the pace of the game and started playing with more enthusiasm. Once we got the lead at 7-5, we never looked back.”

With the program folding very early in the season in 2019-20, the juniors and seniors on the Patriots roster hadn’t won a varsity game since the 2018-19 season.

“The girls were ecstatic to get a win tonight, a great win for the program,” Waitrovich said. “Our defense was better tonight than it had been in any game thus far.”

Grace Massey chipped in 14 points for G-P. Katrina Pranke of White Lake netted 8 points to lead the Lady Lakers.

The Patriots travel to Crandon Monday evening for a JV contest. The next varsity game G-P will play is Dec. 21 when they host Crivitz at Goodman-Armstrong Creek High School.
