FLORENCE, Wis. — Florence freshman Isabella Millan led all scorers with a game-high 25 points, and fellow freshman Victoria Peterson netted a season- high 18 points as Florence breezed past Northern Lakes Conference foe White Lake 61-17 Monday night.

Florence had control of the game right from the start, as its starting five got out to a 19-4 lead, less than midway through the first half. The Lady Lakers did go on a 6-0 scoring run, but the comeback faltered.

Florence head coach Brad Perry was able to use his entire bench throughout the game, with every girl getting valuable minutes.

“I told the girls before the game, that everyone was going to get a lot of playing time tonight, and it fortunately worked out that way,” he said. “Our offense was working well, we moved the ball well and protected it well. Those are things we have been working on, also not telegraphing our passes with our eyes.”

The game was a great confidence builder for the young Florence team, being able to control nearly all aspects of the game.

Peterson played very strong and poised underneath the hoop, leading the team with seven rebounds.

“Victoria also played very aware and alert under the basket, especially for a player with minimal varsity experience,” Perry said.

Perry was also pleased with the Ladycats defense, especially in the second half.

“Audrey Seldon fighting through screens, both under and over the top of them, she did a fantastic job,” he said.

White Lake was led in scoring by senior Emilee Kubacki with eight points. The Lakers played the game with six players.

“We have seven on our roster, but one girl is already gone on Christmas break with her family,” said White Lake head coach Trina Woiak. “We would have had nine players this year, but two other girls parents didn’t want them to play this season due to Covid.”

Neither team fields a JV squad.

Florence, which improved to 2-3 (1-1 NLC), returns to action tonight, as they travel to non-conference foe Crivitz. The Ladycats are then off until Jan. 5 when they host Three Lakes in a Northern Lakes tilt.
