Undefeated Rebels stymie Florence, 60-52
LAONA, Wis — Northern Lakes Conference leader Laona-Wabeno got 29 points from Connor Taylor as the Rebels defeated Florence 60-52 here Thursday night.
Bobcats sophomore Dominic DeMuri netted 20 points, with 18 coming from behind the arc. Sophomore point guard Evan Johnson added 14 points while junior Patrick Millan snared a game-high 19 rebounds and chipped in nine points.
L-W shot 14 free throws to the Bobcats’ zero.
“I couldn’t believe it,” said Florence head coach Bryan Bomberg. “Especially since we out-rebounded them two- fold.”
Reed Christianson canned 15 points for the Rebels, who are undefeated in NLC play.
Bomberg added, “I can’t fault the guys for their effort tonight, I was proud of them. Laona did a great job trapping us, but we didn’t get the ball inside enough and relied on the three-ball too much.”
Florence, who slips to 10-4 on the season, hits the road again tonight as they play game two of a varsity-only boys and girls doubleheader at White lake. The boys contest is scheduled to tip off at approximately 7:15 p.m.
Thursday’s contest was a makeup game from Dec. 17.
Florence 25 27 — 52
