KHS swimmers sweep Ishpeming-Negaunee

ISHPEMING — Kingsford swept its swim meet at Ishpeming-Negaunee, with the girls winning 98-68 and the boys prevailing 84-35.

The Kingsford girls won nine of 10 swimming events, with neither team having any divers.

“Our younger swimmers are continuing their improvement and our veteran swimmers are just about where they should be,” said coach Jim Lindstrom. “It was one of those meets where the team was just a little bit off of where I would like them to be.”

Double winners in individual events were Anna Lundholm in the 50 and 100 freestyle; Adelaide McRoberts in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke; Maggie Menghini in the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle.

Single winners were Samantha Scott in the 100 backstroke and Sydney Scott in the 100 Fly.

“The boys also had a good meet it was the first time all year they were not outnumbered and could show what they could do,” Lindstrom said.

“One of the highlights was new swimmer Chase Carlson who had a grand total of four days of practice without any swimming experience at all, won his first high school race in the 50 free and was just .09 seconds off of state qualifying time. In all of my years of coaching, which is a lot, I have never seen anything like that,” he said.

Sam Bilgreen swam the 100 backstroke for the first time and won. He also won the 100 freestyle.

Single winners were Tommy Lundholm in 500 free, Chase Carlson in the 50 free and Kaden Matuszewski in the 200 individual medley.

Kingsford boys took firsts in all relay events while the girls captured the 200 free and the 200 medley.
