FELCH TOWNSHIP — Ashton Hord netted a game-high 26 points as North Dickinson powered past Stephenson 50-28 in a Skyline Central Conference girls basketball game at the Carl F. Lemin Jr. Gymnasium in Felch.

Micah Lindholm chipped in 10 points for the Nordics.

“The girls were very focused and ready to go tonight,” said North Dickinson head coach Kirk Mattson. “They played with fantastic energy and everyone was communicating well on defense. Although, we were struggling shooting the ball in the first half.”

Paige Cappaert led the Eagles with 12 points for first-year head catch Missy Wangerin.

“In the second half, we attacked their 3-2 zone and we were penetrating to the basket,” Mattson added. “Overall, we played very unselfish on offense, and our free throw shooting was 78%, which I am very happy with.”

ND, who improved to 8-5 (7-5 SCC), remains home to wrap up their regular season against Skyline foe Superior Central on Monday night.

Stephenson won the JV game 33-30.

CRYSTAL FALLS — Despite a game-high 18 points from Forest Park senior Lea LaChapelle, Norway slipped past Forest Park 44-41 in a Skyline Central Conference game Thursday night at the Eddie Chambers Memorial Gymnasium in Crystal Falls.

Sophomore Donna VanHolla led Norway with 10 points, and Mackenzie Clifford chipped in nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.

“We played a solid four quarters, however, Norway made a couple less mistakes and made some free throws at the end,” said Lady Trojans head coach Kim Bjork.

“Forest Park came out intense and focused,” said Norway head coach Joe Tinti. “It was a scrappy game.”

Tinti noted that Jada Freudinger hit some huge layups late in the game and Clifford hit two free throws to seal it with three seconds to go.

Bjork noted that LaChapelle played a quality game, and was a spark on offense. She also noted that Amya Johnson, who added 10 points for Forest Park, had great defensive hustle.

“We are very proud of the overall effort our entire team put forth,” Bjork said.

Norway improved to 7-6 (7-4 SCC) with the win, and will return home to host non-conference foe Kingsford at 5:30 p.m. in game one of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
