Wagner erupts for 37 as Wolves beat WIC girls

CARNEY — All-U.P. center Tessa Wagner ripped the nets for 37 points as undefeated Carney-Nadeau powered past West Iron, 64-45, in a non-conference girls basketball game here Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Danica Shamion led the Wykons with 22 points, while Tori Bociek of WIC and Taylor Kedsch of C-N each scored 11 points.

“We played a very aggressive first half, and I think Carney was surprised at our physicality,” West Iron head coach Eric Shamion said. “They went to a zone in the second half and we had a hard time scoring from outside. Wagner is a tough player in the middle, and we didn’t have an answer for her. I am proud of the effort that my girls gave.”

West Iron, who slipped to 6-7 on the season, returns home for their last home game as they host non-conference for Kingsford on Monday, before traveling to face Forest Park on Thursday. The Wykons go to Houghton on Friday to complete their West PAC Conference schedule and regular season.

The Wolves, who improved to 15-0, remain home to wrap up their Skyline Central Conference schedule and their regular season, facing Forest Park on Monday and welcoming Mid Peninsula on Friday.
