Kingsford softball sweeps Redettes

KINGSFORD — In a softball doubleheader at Lodal Park in Kingsford on Thursday, the host Flivvers powered past Marquette, 13-3 and 16-1.

In game No. 1, Kingsford pitcher Zoie Geronimi hit a two-run home run, tallied three RBI’s and struck out four Marquette batters. Holly Richer added two RBI’s for the Flivvers.

Our girls are hitting the ball very well right through the lineup, it is great to see,” said Kingsford head coach Corissa Rice. “They are continuing to put in a lot of work and it’s paying off.”

Geronimi also cracked a two-run home run in game No. 2, as well as a double.

Delaney Cram smacked a three-run home run in game No. 2, on her way to a team-high 5 RBI’s in the game. Cram also hit a double in the first game.

Kingsford’s Elaina Bortolini toed the mound in game No. 2, striking out three Marquette hitters, while recording 2 RBI’s at the plate. Teagan Petschar also had two RBI’s for the Flivvers in the nightcap.

“Solid defense is backing up our pitchers who are working hard and putting us in good positions to win games,” Rice added. “The girls are coming up with plays that give us momentum.”

Kingsford defensive plays of note on the day: Lizzy Cross made a throw from center field to throw a runner out at home. She later made a diving catch to end an inning.

Right fielder Kyley Corsi was in position backing up a play at first that happened to be an overthrow, and she got the runner out at second base.

Flivvers catcher Cram connected with SS Allie Lavarnway in the first game to get a Marquette runner trying to steal, and again in the second game on a throw to shortstop Teagan Petschar.

Kingsford travels to Norway this afternoon to take on the Lady Knights in a doubleheader. Kingsford then returns home to host Escanaba on Tuesday, before traveling to Menominee on Thursday.
