Rangers top Badgers, 7-4
WAUSAUKEE, Wis. — Despite taking an early three run lead in the top of the first inning, Niagara dropped a Marinette-Oconto Conference baseball game at Wausaukee, 7-4 on Thursday afternoon.
The Badgers, (0-2) were led offensively by Cody Bath with 2 RBI’s and a double. Mason Richtig and Christian Hedmark each tallied an RBI.
Sophomore Ed Swanson had three hits for Niagara, including a double of his own.
“Today was a much better game for us than Tuesday’s game,” said Niagara head coach Dean Neveau. “Mason Richtig pitched well throwing 80 plus pitches, as did Logan Bath.”
“We were better from the plate today, but are still striking out too much. Eddie (Swanson) was superb today hitting, going 3 for 4.”
Five players cracked two hits apiece for Wausaukee, with winning pitcher Danny Guttbehvett getting two RBI’s. Guttbehvett toed the mound for four innings, striking out five, while only walking one batter.
Richtig worked four innings for the Badgers, striking out three and walking three.
“For only playing together for two games, our improvement from game one was good,” Neveau added.
The Badgers return to action this afternoon, as they travel to rival Florence for a non-conference game, with a 4:30 p.m. first pitch scheduled.
