Flivvs hold off Knights, 9-6

Kingsford’s 3 pitchers scatter 4 hits, strike out 10

NORWAY — Jesse Neumann hit a home run for the host Knights, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Kingsford’s pitching as the Flivvers defeated Norway 9-6 in a non-conference baseball game at Mike Maule Field at Marion Park in Norway on Thursday.

Andrew Paupore, Henry McRoberts and Sawyer Pugh toed the mound for the Flivvers, combining for 10 strikeouts and allowing four hits. McRoberts gave up the long ball to Neumann.

“Our trio of pitchers did a nice job of keeping the innings shorter for our defense,” said Kingsford head coach Matt LaLonde.

Dennis Neuens and McRoberts each scored two runs for the Flivvers, and as did Nolan Amundson for Norway.

Chase Carlson and Isaac Lorenzoni pitched for the Knights, who committed eight errors defensively.

“We played close to error-free baseball defensively, while creating runs on offense with good base running and sacrifice hits,” said LaLonde.

“Kingsford’s pitchers pitched well tonight. I’m proud of the way our pitchers battled through some tough circumstances,” said Norway head coach Tony Adams. “Congratulations to Jesse Neumann on his first career home run.

“We played a 21-out game tonight and turned it into 29 or 30 outs with the 8 errors. It’s tough to be competitive with so many errors and walks, but our kids didn’t quit,” Adams added. “Most of our mistakes tonight are correctable and we will continue to seek improvement.”

The Knights return to action tonight as they travel to Skyline Central Conference foe Superior Central. Kingsford takes on Iron Mountain on Saturday morning at LiUNA Field in Iron Mountain.
