Norway take softball DH from Niagara

Lady Knights post strong offense in the twin bill

NORWAY — Sophomore’s Donna VanHolla and Andi Carlson each cracked two doubles, with VanHolla tallying a game high 3 RBI’s, as Norway defeated non-conference foe Niagara, 9-2 in game No. 1 of a doubleheader. The Lady Knights went on to win the four inning second game, 8-2.

Knights junior Kali Stanchina pitched all seven innings, fanning eight Lady Badgers, while allowing three hits.

Abigail Richtig collected both of Niagara’s RBI’s in game one, while teammate Abby Wells pitched the distance, striking out five.

“We put the ball in play tonight, we just couldn’t find a hole in their defense,” said first year Niagara head coach Brad Richtig. Norway on the other hand, from top to bottom of their line up hit the ball and found the gaps. They put the pressure on us.”

Abby Wells pitched well and battled for us. Emma Broullire and Hatti Learned had some really nice defensive plays for us,” Richtig added. “I’m very happy with how we played tonight.”

Both teams return to conference action this afternoon, as Norway travels to Skyline Central Conference for Munising. Niagara will return home to face Marinette-Oconto Conference foe Crivitz.
