Solda runner-up for Kingsford golf

MARQUETTE — In a Great Northern Conference golf meet, Kingsford’s Matt Solda tied for runner-up with a 41 at the Marquette Country Club on Monday. The Flivver boys as a team finished third with a 175.

The host Redmen shot 167, while Menominee carded a 175, Escanaba, 180, and Gladstone, 240. Owen Riipi of Marquette was medalist with a 39.

Solda’s 41 tied with Roger Gravelle of Escanaba and Brady Badker of Menominee. Kingsford’s Lance Harry shot a 42, followed by Troy Watt and Daniel Maki with 46 and Jack Perpich, 47. It was a bitter cold day with high winds and temperatures in the 30s.

On the girls side, the Flivvers shot a 276, with Maggie Menghini carding a team-low 63. Grace Maki was next with a 67, followed by Bryonna Sanders, 71, Christina Glodowski, 75, and Ella Rizzo, 77.

The teams played the Heritage Course, with the girls playing the back nine, while the boys played the front nine. The Flivvers travel to Escanaba on Thursday and Gladstone on Friday for two more GNC meets.
