Florence golfer qualifies
GAASTRA — Florence’s boys golf team hosted a WIAA regional at the George Young Recreational Complex in Gaastra.
The Bobcats’ Matt Johnson shot a team-low 103 and will next compete in the WIAA sectionals at Hunter’s Glen in Crivitz on Tuesday, after being the top individual qualifier.
The top four teams in the regional and top four individuals not on the qualifying teams advance to the sectionals. Wausaukee, Niagara and Elcho did not have full teams compete in this week’s regional.
Florence’s Tyler Niehaus carded a 125, followed by Dominic Axley with a 126, Brock Taff with a 141 and Kaden Campbell with a 151. Florence’s 495 gave them a sixth-place finish.
Niagara had three golfers compete, with Gavin Holdaway shooting a team-low 123, followed by Nate Olsen with a 131 and Ava Newingham with a 159.
Laona-Wabeno won the team title by 28 strokes over Coleman. Crandon finished third with a 418 and Crivitz came in fourth with a 460.
Reed Christianson of Laona-Wabeno won medalist with an 83, followed by teammate Ryan Simonis and Coleman’s Karson Casper, each with an 86.
