L’ANSE — Max Jayne returned the opening kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown and Joe Colavecchi tossed three scoring passes as Iron Mountain defeated L’Anse 42-0 in WestPAC Copper Division football Friday.

“It was a great team win,” said Mountaineers coach Robin Marttila. “Max Jayne made a great play on the opening kickoff. Joe Colavecchi had a nice night passing the ball.”

The Mountaineers, who had 288 yards of offense, scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and three in the second to set off a running clock. There was no scoring in the second half.

Colavecchi connected with Matthew Colavecchi on TD passes of 20 and 21 yards. His 52-yard pass to Luke Wolfe early in the second quarter gave the Mountaineers a 28-0 lead.

“We got off to a great start,” Marttila said.

Bradon Farragh scored on a 28-yard run and Gabe Richtig hit paydirt from 54 yards.

The Mountaineers totaled 136 rushing yards and 152 passing.

L’Anse was held to 81 total yards as Luke Decker and Lucas Maxon had three sacks apiece. Hunter Fortner had eight tackles while Jayne had an interception.

Iron Mountain (2-2) travels to Bark River-Harris on Friday.
