Westwood blanks West Iron netters

STAMBAUGH — West Iron hosted non-conference foe Westwood in girls tennis on Tuesday, and it was the visiting Lady Patriots who rolled past the host Wykons, 8-0, at the Nelson Field Tennis Courts.

“Westwood has a very good group of athletic girls that are very consistent. I felt our girls came out flat and did not move their feet well to get into positions to finish points,” said Wykons head coach Joe Serbentas. “We had long rallies but we need to learn how to overcome mistakes and mentally prepare better for the next point. There were many closely contested sets throughout the match, but we are not satisfied with the results as a team.”

West Iron who slips to 4-2 (2-0 in the Great Northern Conference) returns to conference play at Marquette today, before returning home to host Gladstone on Thursday.
