Cougars spikers nip Nordics, 3-1

EBEN JUNCTION — In Skyline Central Conference volleyball action, North Dickinson traveled to Superior Central for a make-up match and it was the host Lady Cougars defeating the Nordics 3-1, (25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 32-30) on Monday night.

“They have excellent hitters, and we adjusted well to that. We made comebacks in the first two sets, but they held us off,” said ND head coach Taylor Johnson. “By the third set, we gained momentum and held on to win. In the fourth set, it was back and forth the whole set, with nobody being ahead by more than a point until the end.”

Micah Lindholm (3 kills/5 blocks) and Kassandra Cary (10 kills/3 blocks) in the middle played very strong at the net for ND, keeping a lot of balls alive, Johnson noted.

Johnson also pointed to the strong back row play of Ashton Hord, 24 digs, Chrislyn Inglese, 19 digs and Sophie Mattson, 14 digs. The JV match was won by the Nordics, 2-1.

North Dickinson returns home to host SCC opponent Rapid River tonight, before traveling to Powers to face North Central in a SCC match on Thursday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
