’Cats edge Nordics

FELCH — Sophomore standout Isabella Millan scored 32 points as the Florence Ladycats edged North Dickinson 53-49 on Thursday in Felch.

Florence took a 27-22 lead at the halftime break and were able to hold off the Nordics down the stretch.

“I’m really proud of my girls, to go on the road and beat a very good North Dickinson team,” Florence coach Brad Perry said.

Perry said an early switch from a man-to-man defense to a zone helped his team defend the Nordics’ transition game better.

Sophomore Victoria Peterson added 12 points for the Ladycats (2-1).

Perry reflected about his sophomore wunderkind Millan, who is averaging 27.7 points per game through the first three.

“It’s great to watch,” the coach said. Last year as a freshman she played like a junior and after all the work she did in the summer, she’s a sophomore who plays like a senior. She has a great mentality and it’s really exciting to have a sophomore that plays like that.”

For the Nordics (1-1), some missed breakaway layups led to their first-half deficit, coach Kirk Mattson said.

“And we didn’t rebound the basketball very well defensively so it was hard for us to get our transition going,” he added

The Nordics were led by Ashton Hord with 13 points. Vanessa Lindholm added 12 and Micah Lindholm chipped in with 10.

Starting at $4.00/week.
