KINGSFORD — The Kingsford Flivvers hockey team stayed with highly regarded Marquette for one period, but the Redman scored five goals in the second period on their way to an 8-2 Great Lakes Hockey Conference victory at Mountain View Ice Arena on Tuesday night.

Marquette (9-1-1, 4-1) took a 1-0 lead with a goal with just under nine minutes to play in the opening period, but Kingsford’s Jaxon Buckley answered with an unassisted tally to tie the score with 3:51 left in the stanza. However, the Redmen came right back to grab the lead just 33 seconds later and never looked back.

Kingsford’s second goal came from David Juul off assists by Hunter Fortner and Kurt Ryan with nine minutes left in the second period. But Marquette scored headed into the final period up 7-2.

The Redman fired 51 shots on the Kingsford goal, while the Flivvers (2-5) managed just 14 on the Marquette net.
