Hoops wrap: Jets shoot down Trojans 52-42

POWERS — Bradey Anderson sank four 3-pointers and scored 14 points, while Luke Gorzinski registered 13 points, as UPSSA Division 4 third-ranked North Central stopped Forest Park 52-42 in a Skyline Central Conference battle on Friday night at North Central High School.
Jets boys varsity coach Mike Malone was a bit ambivalent in his assessment of his team’s play.
“We played good at times and bad at times,” Malone said. “It was a tale of possessions that were good and possessions that were bad. We will learn from it and move on.”
Malone added that his squad committed more turnovers than he would like.
The Trojans (5-8) were led by Gaven Rintala with 12 points and Kevin Giuliani with 11 points.
With the win, North Central improved to 11-1. Up next, the Jets get a chance for revenge on Tuesday when they host Menominee.
The Division 1-3 top-ranked Maroons handed the Jets their lone loss to this point, a 51-26 setback on Jan. 21.
Knights take control in win
STEPHENSON — Norway stepped on Stephenson early, taking a 15-3 lead after the opening quarter en route to a 62-39 Skyline Central Conference victory Friday night in Stephenson.
Nolan Amundson led the Knights (9-4) with 19 points. Alex Ortman and Chase Carlson came up with nine points each, while Michael Peterson scored eight and Tyler Neuens chipped in with seven.
“It was a tough, physical game,” Norway coach Jeff Gallino said. “Our boys played hard and we were able to knock down some outside shots. Chase Carlson battled on the inside all night. It was a good conference win.”
Norway sweeps series with NC
NORWAY — The Norway Knights girls varsity basketball team followed up its victory over North Central in Powers on Thursday with a 47-31 triumph over the Jets in a make-up Skyline Central Conference contest Saturday afternoon.
Andi Carlson led a balanced scoring attack for the Knights (8-8) with 11 points. Lyneah Hauswirth contributed 10, Jada Freudinger added nine, Hannah Burklund scored eight and Averie Popp chipped in with seven.
“North Central started hitting their jumpers but we were able to counterattack with multiple girls contributing on offense,” Knights coach Joe Tinti said. “Lyneah Hauswirth hit some big threes and we were able to regain some breathing room.”
The Jets (2-9) were paced by Samantha Burton who scored 14, while Gracie Kleikamp added 11.
Lady Badgers rally 53-46
GILLETT, Wis. — Down by two at halftime, the Niagara Lady Badgers outscored Gillett 28-19 in the second half to record a 53-46 M&O Conference victory on Friday night in Gillett.
Josie Rock tallied 14 of her game-best 22 points in the second half to spark Niagara’s comeback. The junior sank 6 of 6 from the foul line down the stretch.
Abby Wells helped out with 12 points for Niagara (13-7). The Lady Badgers have now won four of their last five games.
Ladycats return with win
STURGEON BAY — Isabella Millan poured in 28 points and hauled down 16 rebounds to spark Florence to a 67-42 rout of host Sturgeon Bay in a non-conference game on Friday.
The Ladycats (11-5) returned to the court after the postponement of two games due to illness, but they didn’t miss a beat, taking a 37-17 advantage after the opening half.
Kamdan Johnson contributed 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Paige Uren added 11 points and nine rebounds in the win.
