Kingsford’s rally falls short 5-4

IRON MOUNTAIN — Trailing De Pere by three goals in the third period, the Kingsford Flivvers scored two goals late, but came up just short in their 5-4 defeat Tuesday night at Mountain View Ice Arena.

The Flivvers, who lost to De Pere 9-2 in late December, played evenly with the Voyageurs this time. Kingsford senior defenseman Daniel Maki lit the lamp off assists by Hunter Fortner and David Juul to bring the Flivvers into a 1-all tie after the first period.

De Pere took a 3-1 lead in the second period, but Maki scored again, this time from Fortner and Niko Burgoon, to cut the gap to one entering the final period.

Once again De Pere pushed its lead out with a pair of goals, but Kingsford answered with two of its own – Jaxon Buckley (from Jacob Crockford) and Burgoon (from Fortner and Juul). However, the Flivvers (3-10-1) ran out of time to complete the comeback.

Flivver junior goalie Isaiah Anderson stopped 42 shots in the game.

Starting at $4.00/week.
