NIAGARA, Wis. — Abby Wells went 3 for 4 with an RBI and threw a complete game five-hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead the Niagara varsity softball team to an 8-3 victory over rival Florence on Friday night in Niagara.
Aiva Champeau was perfect at the plate for the Lady Badgers, going 4 for 4 with two RBIs.
Niagara took a 2-0 led in the third and then extended its advantage to six with a four-spot in the fourth. The Ladycats got on the board with a run in the fifth, but Niagara added two more runs in the bottom of the frame to push the score to 8-1.
“A really nice team win tonight,” Niagara coach Brad Richtig said afterward. “Our focus and effort were there. We are starting to put the bat on the ball and into play. We are getting closer to where we want to be, but we still need some time outside to figure things out.”
Rachel Walker, Mallory Sanicki and Bailey Pearson all drove in a run for Niagara.
Isabella Millan led the Florence offense with two singles and two runs scored. Vicki Peterson and Paige Uren added a single and an RBI each.
Richtig said the Ladycats are a team to watch out for.
“If we see Florence in the regionals down the road, I know they will be ready,” he said. “Coach (Dan) Robinson and staff have a really good team that can compete. They are only going to get better.”
