’Cats pound Wausaukee for 12-0 win
WAUSAUKEE, Wis. — Three Florence pitchers combined for a 6-hit shutout as the sixth-seeded Ladycats moved into the girls varsity softball regional final with a 12-0 rout of third-seeded Wausaukee on Tuesday.
Allison Wood, Madison Johnson and Morgan Tomczak kept the Rangers at bay the entire way. Meanwhile, the Florence hitters and defenders did their part in the impressive victory.
Wood started for the Ladycats and threw 5 innings of shutout softball. She allowed 5 hits, struck out 2 and walked 1. Johnson came on in the sixth and recorded a strikeout and walk, but no hits. Tomczak recorded the final three outs to secure the victory.
“Allison Wood pitched five strong innings for us,” Florence coach Dan Robinson said. “She’s getting stronger every game.”
Johnson and Tomczak impressed their coach as well.
“I can’t say enough about our pitchers,” he said.
In fact, Robinson pointed out how all phases of his team’s play were on point in the triumph.
“Our defense was outstanding last night not letting Wausaukee get any free rides on the bases,” he said on Wednesday. “It was a team effort that powered us through.”
With the victory, the Ladycats advance to the regional final where they will travel to second-seeded Laona-Wabeno today. Laona-Wabeno handled seventh-seeded Saint Thomas Aquinas/Lena 10-0.
