IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain sophomore hurler Ashlyn Bal held the visiting Gwinn girls varsity softball team without a hit and the Mountaineer offense added their support in a 9-0 thrashing of the Modeltowners in a Mid-Peninsula Conference victory Tuesday at Northside Field.
In her finest performance of the year, according to Iron Mountain coach Bruce Tapio, Bal faced the minimum number of Gwinn hitters along the way. The only Modeltowners to reach base did so via a walk and a dropped third strike,
Meanwhile, Mountaineer senior Annslee Runsat and freshman Juliana Tapio each smacked an inside-the-park home run to lead the Iron Mountain attack.
The teams played a second game which is not included in the league standings. The Mountaineers, who played with a changed lineup, won the contest 18-13.
Ellison Powell came on in relief for the win in the nightcap

“We had good play from everyone,” Coach Tapio said. “The players stayed focused the whole game and our infield (defense) was great.”
