Movin’ on up: Florence trio qualify for state track meet

ROSHOLT, Wis. — By virtue of their performances at the WIAA Division 3 Rosholt Sectional on Thursday, three Florence Bobcats qualified for the WIAA State Track and Field.

Senior Patrick Milan, junior Blake Smith and freshman Kamdan Johnson will get the opportunity to compete against the state’s best June 3-4 in LaCrosse.

Athletes placing in the top four of each sectional advance to the state finals.

Milan finished third in the 200-meter dash in the sectional, recording a time of 22.95 seconds. Howards Grove junior Brock Dortman won the race in 22.38 seconds.

Milan, a senior, qualified last year as well and placed sixth with a 23.90.

Smith advanced to the state finals in the 300-meter hurdles. The junior placed fourth at the sectional level, running a 41.22. Cade Stingle of Shiocton won the event with a time of 38.33.

Johnson moved on to the state meet in the 400-meter dash by placing third with a 1:01.23. Mel Severson of Newman Catholic won the sectional with a 1:00.11.
