Prep Softball: Florence edges Crandon 11-10
FLORENCE, Wis. — The Florence girls varsity softball team needed all the offense it could get in an 11-10 Northern Lakes Conference victory over Crandon on Thursday.
The Ladycats took a 5-1 lead after four innings before the scoring blitz really began. The Cardinals tied the game with four in the top of the fifth before Florence answered with three in the bottom half to rebuild an 8-5 edge. Once again Crandon answered, scoring four in the sixth to take a one-run lead, but back came the Ladycats with three in the bottom of the sixth to finally score enough for the victory.
“It was nice to see our bats come alive again,” Florence coach Dan Robinson said. “We had 13 hits as a team.”
Hannah Holdaway led the hitting parade with three hits, including two doubles. Isabella Millan, Morgan Tomczak and Allison Wood recorded two hits each.
“We had big hits by Morgan Tomczak, Allison Wood and Hannah Holdaway to take back the lead,” Robinson said. “In the top of the seventh, Morgan threw a perfect throw to home plate with Leighton Lambert (applying) the tag to seal the game.”
