KINGSFORD — The Kingsford boys varsity soccer team came out blazing in the second half against visiting Escanaba Bayside, breaking what had been a 0-all tie at the intermission and turning it into a 3-1 win at Commemorative Field in Kingsford on Thursday.

Trent Maki finally got the Flivvers on the board eight minutes into the second half on an assist by Jaxon Buckley, who had a hand in all three Kingsford goals.

Buckley again assisted on Kingsford’s second tally, finding Marshall Shockey for a five-foot shot on goal.

The team’s third and final goal came from a 40-foot pass from Cedric Hendrickson to Buckley, who then knocked it in from about six feet out.

“I always tell our team that good passing leads to easy goals and we had some good assists today,” said Kingsford coach Jeff Gordon. “Our defense played well limiting Bayside to four shots on goal. We controlled the ball on Bayside side of the field most of the game.

“It was nice to be able to get our young players in the game. That’s always the best way to learn — game experience,” he added.
