Daily Meditations: Power of a good example

Regina Riley is a very devoted Christian. She tells the story of having prayed for the return of her two sons to the church.

One Sunday, she looked up and saw them sitting across the aisle from her. She was just overjoyed.

After Mass, Regina asked her sons what had led them back to church. They said they were vacationing up in the mountains in Montana. It was raining Sunday, so they decided to come down the mountain road and return to the town.

On their way down, they came across an old man limping along in the rain. They picked him up and asked him where he was going. He told them he was on his way to Mass 3 miles from his mountain home.

They said they waited in the car for him and after Mass gave him a ride home. They said they were so impressed with this man’s faith they just had to return to church.

Sometimes I am asked by parents what they could do to help their children remain faithful to the Lord. I tell them three things: example, example, example.

I close with a quote from Nathan Soderblom, “Saints are persons who make it easier for others to believe in God.”

God bless.
