Nancy and Steve Nelson of Iron Mountain are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Laura Helene Nelson, to Karl P J Smith, son of Karl and Robynne Smith of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The bride-to-be graduated from Interlochen Academy for the Arts in 2005. She was a fourth-generation graduate with honors from the University of Minnesota and is currently a third-year student doctor at the Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Karl P J graduated from Lebanon High School in 2007 and the University of Rochester in 2011, then obtained a doctorate in biophysics in 2017. Karl is self-employed as “Dr. Sparks,” an educational performer, and as wedding story writer. A New Year’s Eve celebration will take place in Pittsburgh.
