Fishing museum open Sunday

MENOMINEE — Shore Fishing Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The homestead museum features the gear and equipment used widely throughout the region for commercial fishing, including five commercial fishing vessels in an outdoor display.

This museum has one of the most complete collections of commercial fishing artifacts in Michigan.

Nature trails along the bay offer a chance for a short hike through the woods to appreciate the beauty and sounds of the natural world. Adjacent Bailey Park has stretches of sandy beach that have been very popular this summer for outdoor activities. There is plenty of room for social distancing; masks are required in enclosed areas and close quarters.

At the museum, the gift shop, perennial plant sale area, two exhibit areas, and the boat shelters will all be open to the public. The colorful gardens and spacious grounds invite visitors to take a leisurely stroll. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Labor Day weekend Ice Cream Social is canceled this year. No food or drink will be served on Sunday. Picnic tables are available for those who would like to bring their own food.

The museum is next to Bailey Park, 15 miles north of Menominee or 9 miles south of Cedar River. Enter Bailey Park at either entrance, turn left on the gravel road, and follow it down the shady lane to the museum grounds. See our Facebook page or call 715-923-9756 for further information.

Starting at $3.50/week.
