Alzheimer’s presentations planned in Niagara

NIAGARA, Wis. — The Alzheimer’s Association has scheduled presentations at the Marinette County Health and Human Services office, 1201 Jackson St. in Niagara, Wis.

The first, “Effective Communication Strategies,” will be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The presentation will explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s, learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help people connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.

A second presentation, “Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior,” will be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Those who attend will learn to decode behavioral messages, identify common behavior triggers and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the most common behavioral challenges of Alzheimer’s disease.

The final presentation of the year, “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body,” will be 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7.

The presentation will focus on research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and how to use hands-on tools to help incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy living.
