Dickinson County Library events for August announced

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Dickinson County Library has announced its upcoming schedule for August.

— Norway Elementary Story Stroll: Through Friday, Aug. 16.

Take a walk and read an adventurous story for all ages. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

— Travel Watercolor Kits: Available at all branches starting Monday.

Be ready when inspiration calls with these creative art kits for teens and adults. Available while supplies last. Sponsored by Rize.

— Lego Club: 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain and 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Solomonson Branch-Norway.

This monthly program for kids in grades 3-8 offers the opportunity to be creative while building with Legos. This month, participants will be challenged to build something out of this world using space-themed prompt cards. Kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to attend Norway’s session. No registration required.

— Out of this World. 4 to 5 p.m. Friday With Ann Arbor Hands on Science Museum at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

All ages are invited to explore the universe with the Ann Arbor Hands-On Science Museum. From rotations and revolutions to the creations of stars, they take a journey in understanding the workings of the solar system, and how the planet is so unique. This program also includes take-home items for those that attend. No registration required. Sponsored by Drs. Michael and Maria Occhietti.

— Adventures in Storytime: At 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Explore the wonders of early literacy through books, songs, and activities at this program for kids to age five and their caregivers. Wear your hiking/camping gear and explore nature with books “Acorn Was a Little Wild” by Jen Arena and “Up the Creek” by Nicholas Oldland. No registration required. Sponsored by Mary Endelman.

— Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain Book Club: At 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Adults are invited to discuss “The Guide” by Peter Heller. No registration required and new members are always welcome.

— The Dickinson County Library Board meets at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Public is welcome to attend.

— Yoga at the Library: From 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Local yoga instructor Kimberly Spigarelli will lead teen and adult patrons through beginning to moderate poses and breathing exercises. Bring a mat or towel. Required registration opens on Tuesday; call the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain at 906-774-1218 to sign up.

— Bow Wows and Books: From 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Patrons of all ages and reading abilities can practice their reading skills by reading aloud to therapy dogs, Angel, a teddy-bear and Azul, a Siberian Husky-Mix. Registration is required and begins on Wednesday, Aug. 7; call the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain at 906-774-1218 to sign up for a 15-minute time slot with either or both dogs.

— Marble Suncatchers: From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Solomonson Branch-Norway and from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 at the Felch Senior Center, W4243 M-69 in Felch.

— Solomonson Branch-Norway Book Club: At 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at the Solomonson Branch-Norway.

— Messy Misadventures: From 5 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Kids in grades 3-8 will make messy masterpieces with cotton ball throw painting and tie-dye bags at this monthly summer program. This drop-in program is designed for patrons in grades 5 and up that are currently battling cancer, are survivors of cancer, and for those that are/have been caregivers (includes family, friends, medical persons, etc.). Each month a craft kit will be available for attendees to do if they wish; August will be globe decorating. This is a safe space to share experiences and meet others. No registration required. — Gamers’ Club: At 3:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19 at the Solomonson Branch-Norway.

— Mini Fire Pit S’more Kits: From 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19 at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain; from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20 at the Solomonson Branch-Norway; and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at the North Dickinson Branch.

Tune Tots shows are all about letting the creative young mind run free and explore. Their shows are loud. They are chaotic. They are fun. And they are meant to be that way. Children spend a lot of their time learning and understanding, so we want this to be an experience where they can relax and explore the world of music freely. No registration required. — The Traveling Elixir Fixer: From 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 at the Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain.

Angie Jackson, known as the Traveling Elixir Fixer, is a master culinary mixologist, brand consultant, and author. In her 25-year career, she has designed and executed award-winning beverage programs for Chicago’s top bars and restaurants, numerous Midwest distilleries, national distributors, as well as global brands and celebrities. This program for adults includes an alcohol-free “elixir” featured in her book, “Drink the Wild: Recipes from the Apothecary of a Kitchen Witch for the Spirited Soul.” No registration required. — The Dickinson County Library Dickinson County Library in Iron Mountain will be closed on Sunday, September 1st and all branches will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2 in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at the Iron Mountain and Solomonson-Norway Branches. Winter hours will begin at the North Dickinson Branch on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
