Marinette sheriff: Missing woman’s remains not found

IRON MOUNTAIN — Rumors that remains had been found of a Florence, Wis., woman missing for more than three years are incorrect, the Marinette County sheriff said today.

A search of the Tranquil-Vista Campground in Pembine, Wis., revealed only deer bones, Marinette County Jerry Sauve said.

Nancy Renkas, 47, disappeared July 18, 2016. She was last seen getting into a white SUV in the Super One Foods parking lot in Iron Mountain, according to a news release from the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.

Since then, a task force of detectives from police agencies in Michigan and Wisconsin, along with FBI agents from Marquette and Green Bay, Wis., have been searching for her.

Sauve said deputies searched the campground, which once had been owned by the Renkas family, after an odor complaint. Cadaver dogs found the deer remains.

“We continue to follow up on this,” Sauve said, adding anyone with information about Renkas’ disappearance should contact the sheriff’s office or the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office.
