Hannahville man dies in apparent drowning

ESCANABA — Authorities say a 55-year-old man found floating in the water just offshore of the Harbor Master building in Escanaba on Thursday was an apparent accidental drowning.

Escanaba Public Safety Department officers were called to the Escanaba Harbor near Water Plant Road about 1:30 p.m., where they found Anthony McCullough, of the Hannahville Tribal Community, face down in the water.

He was pulled ashore and pronounced dead at the site.

Though it appears McCullough died from accidentally drowning, Escanaba Public Safety said an investigation to determine when McCullough was last seen alive continues. Foul play is not suspected.

No other information was released on the investigation.

The Escanaba Public Safety Department was assisted by the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Rampart EMS, and Delta County Central Dispatch.
