Kingsford makes year-end adjustments in budget

KINGSFORD — The Kingsford City Council has finalized amendments to close out the 2019-20 budget.

The general fund should end the year with total anticipated revenues of $3,965,699 up from the budgeted amount of $3,896,050, City Manager Anthony Edlebeck told the council. General interest rates were higher than anticipated at about $18,651 and equipment rental funds were up about almost $34,000.

General fund expenditures were $3,944,433, down from the budgeted amount of $4,113,814. Some of bigger savings came in salaries, lower parks and recreation costs, Edlebeck said.

In other business June 15, the council:

— Heard the city is looking to retrofit two sanitation lift stations, installed in 1958 and last upgraded in 1987, Edlebeck said.

–Reported work on installation of a new phone system. The CCI Inc. of Iron Mountain system will cost $24,822.92 for installation and equipment with annual maintenance cost of $7,910.64 after the first year. While approved at the Feb.18 meeting, installation was delayed by the coronavirus.

— Learned Edlebeck would like to use city funds to repave Pyle Drive to Evergreen Court. Edlebeck said they have tried unsuccessfully to get grants for the work over the past few years. He felt they should just complete the project.

— Were told the parks are open, though the public should use caution, as while bathrooms, equipment and tables will be regularly cleaned, they are not sanitized.

— Received five applications for a position in the public works department.
