Two new virus cases in Dickinson, one in Iron

Local health officials Friday reported two new COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and another new case in Iron County, while across the river Wisconsin’s Marinette County added six more cases.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department also upgraded a person in Iron County to “recovered” status, leaving that county with three recovered, one death and five still-active cases among its nine positives.

Dickinson County now has 28 confirmed COVID-19 positives, with four recovered, two deaths and 22 cases still active, according to DIDHD.

The Michigan COVID-19 data site Friday listed only three new cases in the Upper Peninsula, in Menominee, Marquette and Houghton counties. It did not have the new additions in Dickinson and Iron counties, nor one new case the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department posted Friday afternoon in Houghton County.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, along with the six new positives in Marinette County — raising that county to 139, a jump of 57 in only a week’s time — the state data site also had one new case each in Florence and Vilas counties; Vilas County on Friday acknowledged its new cases over the past few days, stating on Facebook they involved residents in their 20s and 50s. Health officials in both Forest and Iron counties Friday each reported one new case on their respective Facebook pages.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ data site Friday had Ontonagon County with one confirmed virus case; Keweenaw two confirmed cases; Luce County three confirmed cases; Alger County three confirmed cases and one probable; Baraga County with five confirmed cases; Schoolcraft County with seven confirmed cases; Iron County eight confirmed cases and one death; Mackinac County nine confirmed

cases; Chippewa County 19 confirmed cases and four probable; Gogebic County 20 confirmed cases, one probable and a death; Dickinson County 24 confirmed cases, three probable and two deaths; Houghton County 27 confirmed cases and six probable; Delta County 34 confirmed cases, nine probable and three deaths; Menominee County 50 confirmed cases and four probable; and Marquette County 96 confirmed cases, six probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using strictly the state figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Friday has had 310 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 660 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Friday for a total of 72,502 to date. The state had seven new deaths for 6,108 to date.

Dickinson County Healthcare System as of Thursday showed five cases from Dickinson County and nine cases from other counties; those counties are not identified. DCHS has tested 1,821 people for COVID-19, with 14 positive, 1,710 negative and 97 results still pending. DCHS noted there are several additional sources of testing in Dickinson County.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state DHS COVID-19 data site Friday listed Marinette County with 139 cases and three deaths; Forest County with 49 cases and three deaths; Iron County 24 cases and one death; Vilas County 18 cases; and Florence County six cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports.

Wisconsin had 880 new cases Friday for a total of 40,507 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state recorded two new COVID-19 deaths to reach 833 to date.
